This year, the new Skipjack Heritage Race (September 14) joins the Deal Island Labor Day Skipjack Race (September 1) and the Choptank Heritage Skipjack Race in Cambridge (September 27) as an opportunity for viewing and touring the skipjack fleet and watching these iconic boats compete for prizes.
The race is part of Skipjack Heritage Days, September 13-14, a signature celebration of maritime heritage during the Maryland Seafood Festival. Also featured will be Champions of the Chesapeake, an interactive learning space with family-oriented exhibits and activities.
The Skipjack Heritage Race begins at noon on Sunday, preceded by a parade of skipjacks at 11 a.m. See the links in the box at right for more information.
